Mike Hodges

Trustee & Joint Chair

Mike has lived in Brockenhurst since 1993. His professional career was in the milk industry in HR, Production and Sales. Mike commissioned the first non-returnable carton dairy in the UK and managed the distribution of the ‘daily pinta’ to 800,000 homes in Greater London area, overseeing some 3000 staff and 1800 electric milk floats.

Mike took early retirement and being interested in charitable work, he took a role as Commercial Director with the Trident Trust, an education charity managing work experience and personal development for some 160,000 students annually from the UK and Europe for a 3 year period.

Latterly, Mike became involved in the NHS’ Better Local Care programme where he was a patient representative. Mike then set up and chaired the New Forest Community Engagement Group involving Patients, Voluntary Sector and NHS staff. This work has involved Mike in Lymington Hospital and recognising the excellent work of Lymington Hospital Friends, Mike decided to join as a Trustee and he is looking forward to being involved in its future development.

Arthur England

Trustee & Joint Chair

Arthur moved to Brockenhurst with his family in 1992. He enjoyed a varied career in banking/finance and local government, managing people, business, projects, web, e-learning and communications. 

Over the years, he has actively raised funds for the British Heart Foundation, Great Ormond Street, Guide Dogs and the RNLI.

Arthur works closely with the hospital on new patient care projects, communications and fundraising to help develop Lymington Hospital services for patients.

He loves spending time with his family, travel & letterpress printing in his home studio.

Anne Bowman

Trustee

Anne joined Lymington Hospital Friends as an office Volunteer and Trustee in 2019, following her return from a career spent working in Financial Services overseas.

Anne enjoys volunteering for several local charities and has found this to be a good way to get to know people in the local community and make new friends.

Anne is keen to use her professional experience to support the continued development and support offered by the Lymington Hospital Friends to the hospital and its staff and users.

Catherine Bowell

Trustee

Catherine  joined Lymington Hospital Friends as Trustee in 2023, following her  career spent working in healthcare as an Occupational Therapist  and managing Community Services  across West Hampshire.

She is involved in several local charities working with children and families – especially when it involves glue, paint and glitter!

Catherine is keen to use her professional experience to continue to enhance the excellent patient care offered to our local population.

Chris Roseveare

Trustee (Clinical)

Dr Chris Roseveare was first appointed as a Consultant Physician in 1999 in Southampton, before moving to Lymington in 2015, where he now works full-time, specialising in Gastroenterology and General Medicine. He is the Clinical Lead for the Acute Medicine and Endoscopy services at the hospital and takes an active role in teaching for students and junior doctors. He is a Past President of the Society for Acute Medicine and recently completed his tenure as the Regional Advisor for Medicine in Wessex.

Chris lives in the New Forest and is a keen wildlife enthusiast, enjoying a daily walk around the hospital grounds, where he has recorded over 60 species of birds, and many unusual plants and butterflies over the past 8 years.

During his time as Trustee, he hopes to provide a closer liaison role between the hospital ward teams and the Friends, ensuring engagement in projects that can make a real difference to patients using the hospital.

Tom Sterling

Trustee (Clinical)

Tom Sterling is one of the consultants at Lymington Hospital working in General Medicine for both inpatients and outpatients. He rejoined Lymington as a consultant in August 2023 having previously worked here for 8 years in a more junior role from 2012 to 2020.

He grew up locally, in East Boldre, and both his parents were physicians in the area so he has a longstanding connection to both the community and the hospital. Away from work he has played cricket all over the New Forest and is rarely happier than when out on the forest with his family and dog!

In his role as a trustee he hopes to better understand the relationships between the Friends and the patients, staff and service providers to realise the opportunities to improve patient care and the patient experience.

David Mackew

Trustee

David lives in Barton On Sea, having moved here in 2022 after working for over 50 years in Cambridge.  He retired in 2015 from a career in the professional radio communications industry, both in a sales and business development capacity.  Before retirement David’s interest in his community led him to be a Parish Councillor and Parish Council Chairman.  He was an active National Trust Volunteer working front of house and also as a fully trained miller in a working flour mill.

Since moving to Barton On Sea David has enjoyed volunteering for the New Forest National Park woodlands and maintenance team, and also volunteers as a Ward Friend for Lymington Hospital.  This led him to become interested in the work of the Lymington Hospital Friends organisation and to join the Board of Trustees.

David’s interests are family, gardening, walking the coastline and forest, and his Ward Friends role.  He loves to meet new people and to hear their stories and experiences and is committed to contributing to the work of the Lymington Hospital Friends organisation.

Dean Rook

Trustee

Dean grew up in Bournemouth having moved with his family when young from Epsom, Surrey.  In his early 30’s, Dean moved to central London and then Tring in Hertfordshire for 7 years, before moving to the New Forest where he has lived for the last 10 years.

Dean has been in Financial Services for the last 25 years, working for companies such as Zurich Insurance, Royal Bank of Scotland, Royal Bank of Canada, Artemis Investors and JPMorgan where he spent 13 years over 2 separate spells.  Working in both capital Markets and Investor Services with a heavy emphasis on Operations and managing global teams.

Dean has been a keen advocate and supporter of a number of charities including RNLI, Prostate Cancer, Help for Heroes as well as Alzheimer’s where he ran the New York Marathon to support their fund raising. Having been keen to support local charities and be more active in altruistic activities, Dean joined the Friends Trustees team in June 2024.

Dean loves spending time with his wife and 2 teenage daughters as well as being a keen forest/coast cyclist.

Ian Hynd

Operations Manager

Ian was brought up on the Waterside and moved to Sussex in 1975, then moved back in 1992 to New Milton and the New Forest. He is married to Lynda and they have four wonderful children and currently 4 grandchildren! Outside of family life, Ian is an enthusiastic Southampton season ticket holder!

He worked for 33 years in personal and corporate banking, gaining finance and administration experience up to Director level. Taking a career turn, Ian became self employed to own and run Barton on Sea Newsagents and store, this included being Sub Postmaster for 6 years.

In September 2014, Ian joined the Friends of Lymington New Forest Hospital as Operations and Volunteer Service Manager. In 2019, he moved to Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust as Head of Brighterway Charity.

In October 2021, Ian returned to the role of Operations Manager for Lymington Hospital Friends to help in the re-launch of the valuable work we do in the hospital enhancing the service and patient experience.
